PROFILE

Andy joined the Department of Economics at the University of Birmingham in 1980 having been a lecturer for 5 years at the Business School at Liverpool Polytechnic (now John Moore's University). Andy was awarded a personal chair (in Money and Banking) in the Department of Economics in May 1997.

Prior to serving as Head of School of Social Sciences from 1 August 1997 to 31 July 2000, Andy was Director of the undergraduate and postgraduate Money, Banking and Finance programmes in the Department of Economics.

Andy joined the Birmingham Business School in May 2001 and has served as Programme Director of the MBA (International Banking and Finance) and Director of the Global Finance Research Group. In 2005 he became Head of the Finance Group.

His research interests are in the fields of money, banking and finance and include: bank regulation; financial sector reform; small and medium sized enterprise financing; corporate governance; business cycles; and monetary policy.
